Project Overview
TTS Engineering’s Marine team carried out a major pipework re-routing project aboard a vessel. The work supported planned upgrades and improvements to the ship.
The project involved modifications to three key systems: hydraulic, gas and oxygen pipework.
Working within an existing ship environment created several challenges. Space and access were limited, while existing equipment restricted the available pipe routes. The TTS team carefully planned each new route before starting work.
The project also had a tight deadline. TTS needed to complete all work within a two-week programme and before the vessel’s scheduled departure.
Objective
The main objective was to re-route the vessel’s hydraulic, gas and oxygen systems safely and efficiently. This would create the space needed for further improvements to the ship.
TTS planned new pipe routes around the existing equipment and services. The team also needed to ensure that the new pipework connected correctly with the retained systems.
The project required a combination of pipe fabrication, hydraulic forming, TIG welding and onboard installation. Careful planning helped the team manage the limited access and available space.
TTS also worked to a strict programme. The team needed to complete the modifications, carry out final checks and finish the project before the vessel departed.
Project Detail
The TTS Engineering team started by reviewing the work areas and planning the new pipe routes. This allowed the team to identify potential issues before installation began.
The team then isolated the affected hydraulic, gas and oxygen systems. After confirming that the systems were safe, they removed the redundant sections of pipework and prepared the areas for installation.
TTS fabricated and formed new pipe sections to match the revised routes. The team then installed the new pipework onboard the vessel.
The engineers used TIG welding during the fabrication and installation work. They carefully managed pipe alignment and connections between the new and existing systems. BSP compression connections provided the required connection points into the retained systems.
The project required a range of specialist equipment, including:
- Hydraulic forming equipment
- TIG welding equipment
- Portable scaffolding tower
- Power tools
- Specialist hand tools
- General hand tools
Throughout the project, TTS coordinated the work around the vessel’s existing systems and equipment. This approach helped the team manage the restricted working areas and maintain progress.
After completing the installation, the team carried out final system checks and confirmed completion of the planned work.
TTS Engineering completed the project as planned within the two-week programme and ahead of the vessel’s scheduled departure.
